March Madness is a yearly competition held between all NCAA or college teams for primarily basketball and secondly football. It is a single-elimination competition in which the last team standing is crowned the national champion for the division I level of the national collegiate athletic association.

Selection Sunday for march madness begins on March 17th, with the game dates being as follows. March 19-20 The First Four. March 21-22 First Round. March 23-24 Second Round. March 28-29 Sweet 16. March 30-31 Elite Eight. April 6th Final Four. April 8th NCAA championship game.

68 teams from across the US NCAA compete within the March Madness competition.

The NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Committee is responsible for selecting, seeding and bracketing the field for the NCAA Tournament.

Henry V. Porter during his time in the IHSA wrote an essay titled ‘March Madness’ in 1939, and the tournament has been named in his honour.

March Madness is held at various different stadiums and colleges across the country and varies each year. Usually fixtures are announced shortly before or after teams have been selected.
